Delivery Options
Updated: Oct 14, 2020
At Collins Supply, we offer a variety of ways to get our product to the customer. For those in the local area, there is always the option to pick up their material for themselves at our office/warehouse site. We are located at 6465 N. Avondale, in the Edison Park neighborhood of Chicago. For orders that meet a certain minimum, there is also city and suburban delivery via our company van. Overall, we can accommodate all types of purchases from a single roll to pallet-sized orders and ship them out on a daily basis.
Going back to the early days, Ed Collins packaged and delivered material himself to his customers at their location. As I have already mentioned in an earlier post, Ed began his business in his own home and garage. But as his business grew and his customers multiplied, it wasn’t too long before he needed the services of a full-time parcel carrier. That’s where UPS came in.

As the customer base of Collins Supply expanded, Ed turned to UPS for local and regional delivery. Material needed to be ordered, packaged, and shipped out the same day to the customer. Ed required a direct and dependable courier to deliver our product and UPS proved themselves to be the best choice both then and now. Materials are regularly picked up five days a week at Collins Supply in the late afternoon. Orders that are placed by 2:30 Central Time are generally assured of getting out the door that same day. Our customers know they can count on receiving their orders within a given delivery time as determined by their location. The majority of orders are shipped by ground and fall within the 1, 2, or 3 Day Delivery Window.

For pallet-sized orders traveling longer distances, we will send shipments via an LTL carrier.
Like many other businesses, we observe a number of holidays throughout the year. In addition to Thanksgiving (and its evil twin - Turkey Coma Friday), Christmas Day, and New Year's Day, we also close our doors on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. As the situation sometimes dictates, "half-days" will come into play on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and Good Friday. For those occasions we will stay open only as late as our customers need us.
Finally, no blog post about delivery in the Midwest would be complete without a word about the weather! All deliveries, year-round, are subject to the whims of Mother Nature and Collins Supply is no exception. Summer rainfall can flood major roadways and cause time-consuming detours. Winter can bring either heavy snow or the dreaded "polar vortex". Springtime can also see heavy rains and tornado activity in the Chicago suburbs and downstate areas, but Autumn is usually free from extreme weather conditions. (Not counting this past Halloween and it's frosted jack-o-lanterns.)
No matter the preferred method of delivery, we pride ourselves on getting our material to the customer in the most efficient manner possible. And we look forward to meeting the delivery needs of our customers in the future.
